Priscilla was a loved, respected, and faithful teacher of the Gospel of Christ.
Proverbs 31 AMP
"30Charm and grace are deceptive, and beauty is vain [because it is not lasting], but
a woman who reverently and worshipfully fears the Lord, she shall be praised!"
Many positive things can be said of Priscilla. She sacrificed for the Lord (Rom. 16:3-5),
was devoted to Him, loved Him and obeyed Him. Priscilla was married to Aquila. She was a homemaker
(Rom. 16:3-5, Acts 18:3). In the Bible, Priscilla and Aquila are always mentioned together, which
shows us that they had a very close relationship. Priscilla was a helper of man as God intended when He
made woman (Genesis 2:18-25). We don't know if they had any children. Priscilla also worked along
side her husband making tents. Having the same occupation as they did, the Apostle Paul stayed with them. This
gave Priscilla and Aquila the unique opportunity to learn from Paul and help him spread the Gospel. We know
that Priscilla was hospitable as the church met in their home in Ephesus and Rome. And we are told in Romans
16:4 that they risked their lives for Paul while in Rome.
Acts 18:1-3 AMP "1[Paul] departed from Athens and went to Corinth.
2There he met a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, recently arrived from Italy with Priscilla his
wife, due to the fact that Claudius had issued an edict that all the Jews were to leave Rome. And [Paul] went to
see them, 3And because he was of the same occupation, he stayed with them; and they worked [together],
for they were tentmakers by trade."
Romans 16:4 AMP
"3Give my greetings to Prisca and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus, 4Who risked
their lives [endangering their very necks] for my life. To them not only I but also all the churches among the
Gentiles give thanks."
After receiving the Gospel from Paul, Priscilla and Aquila, in turn taught others the Truth.
Acts 18:24-26 says:
Acts 18:24-26 AMP
"24Meanwhile a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was a learned man, with a
thorough knowledge of the Scriptures. 25He had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and he spoke with
great fervor and taught about Jesus accurately, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26He began to
speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to
him the way of God more adequately."
No doubt, they spoke the Truth in love according to Ephesians 4:15.
Ephesians 4:15 AMP
"15Rather, let our lives lovingly express truth [in all things, speaking truly, dealing truly, living
truly]. Enfolded in love, let us grow up in every way and in all things into Him Who is the Head, [even] Christ
(the Messiah, the Anointed One)."
1 Peter 1:22 AMP
"22Since by your obedience to the Truth through the [Holy] Spirit you have purified your hearts for
the sincere affection of the brethren, [see that you] love one another fervently from a pure heart."
Apollos had not been taught the baptism of Jesus so that is what they taught him. He had been taught the
baptism of John, which is vastly different since it is just a baptism of repentance. Apollos did not
understand that in the baptism of Jesus, a person is baptized into the death of Jesus, baptized into the Name
of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and receives the gift of the Holy Spirit upon being forgiven of his
sins. He did not know that every thing had changed on Pentecost. Jesus said in Matthew 28:18-19...
Matthew 28:18-19 AMP
"19Go then and make disciples of all the
nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and
of the Son and of the Holy Spirit..."
Acts 2:38 AMP
"38And Peter answered them, Repent (change your views and purpose to accept the will of God in your
inner selves instead of rejecting it) and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the
forgiveness of and release from your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
Romans 6:3-4 AMP
"3Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
4We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised
from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life."
The Apostle Paul also corrected the error of Apollos.
Acts 19:1-4 AMP
"1WHILE APOLLOS was in Corinth, Paul went through the upper inland districts and came down to Ephesus.
There he found some disciples. 2And he asked them, Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed
[on Jesus as the Christ]? And they said, No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit. 3And
he asked, Into what [baptism] then were you baptized? They said, Into John's baptism. 4And Paul
said, John baptized with the baptism of repentance, continually telling the people that they should believe in the
One Who was to come after him, that is, in Jesus [having a conviction full of joyful trust that He is Christ, the
Messiah, and being obedient to Him]. 5On hearing this they were baptized [again, this time] in the name
of the Lord Jesus."
With this better understanding, Apollos went on to greatly help the brethren in Achaia, strenuously
discussing with the Jews in public and proving by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Messiah (Acts 18:27, 28).
Although we should always strive for perfection in teaching the Word of God, we must also keep in mind the
humility of Christ.
1 Corinthians 3:5-7 AMP
"5What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe--as the
Lord has assigned to each his task. 6I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow.
7So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow."
Today we are still confronted with those in the church and even more so in denominations who don't understand
the difference between the baptism of John and the baptism of Christ. We desperately need Priscilla's and
Aquila's to teach them because without the necessary knowledge, they cannot be saved and sometimes go on to preach
that baptism is not necessary for Salvation and various other creeds of men.
Romans 10:14-15 AMP
"14But how are people to call upon Him Whom they have not believed [in Whom they have no faith, on
Whom they have no reliance]? And how are they to believe in Him [adhere to, trust in, and rely upon Him] of Whom
they have never heard? And how are they to hear without a preacher? 15And how can men [be expected to]
preach unless they are sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of those who bring glad tidings! [How
welcome is the coming of those who preach the good news of His good things!]
"
Acts 8:29-31
"29Then the [Holy] Spirit said to Philip, Go forward
and join yourself to this chariot. 30Accordingly
Philip, running up to him, heard [the man] reading the prophet
Isaiah and asked, Do you really understand what you are
reading? 31And he said, How is it possible for me
to do so unless someone explains it to me and guides me [in
the right way]? And he earnestly requested Philip to come up
and sit beside him."
The main reason that many do not understand the difference between
the baptism of John and the baptism of Christ is that they do not
realize that we do not live under the Law of Moses today or the
Law of Moses plus the Law of Christ, but only the Law of Christ.
The Ten Commandments were given only to the Hebrews on Mount Horeb
and are part of the Law of Moses. The Gentiles during Old
Testament times lived under the Law of their conscience (Rom 2:14,15).
When Jesus died on the cross, fortunately, the OLD Law was nailed
to the cross.
Colossians 2:13-15 AMP
"13And you who were dead in trespasses and in the
uncircumcision of your flesh (your sensuality, your sinful carnal nature), [God] brought to life
together with [Christ], having [freely] forgiven us all our
transgressions, 14Having cancelled and blotted out
and wiped away the handwriting of the note (bond) with its legal
decrees and demands which was in force and stood against us
(hostile to us). This [note with its regulations, decrees, and
demands] He set aside and cleared completely out of our way by
nailing it to [His] cross."
We now have the more Perfect Law of Faith. This does
not mean that a person is 'saved by faith'
and is not consistent with such doctrine.
James 2:24 AMP
"24You see that a man is justified (pronounced righteous
before God) through what he does and not alone through faith
[through works of obedience as well as by what he believes]."
Hebrews 9:16-18 tells us that the New Testament did not come into
effect until after Christ died and that His death had to be
established before the New Testament took effect. Therefore, the
Law of Christ took effect on Pentecost AFTER Christ had appeared
to His Apostles for 40 days (Acts 1:1-3, 12-26) proving that He
had been dead and had risen from death. (Remember that Jesus
had Thomas touch the nail scars in His hands and the scar in His
side.)
Hebrews 9:16-18 AMP
"15[Christ, the Messiah] is therefore the Negotiator
and Mediator of an [entirely] new agreement (testament, covenant),
so that those who are called and offered it may receive the
fulfillment of the promised everlasting inheritance--since a
death has taken place which rescues and delivers and redeems them
from the transgressions committed under the [old] first agreement.
16For where there is a [last] will and testament
involved, the death of the one who made it must be established,
17For a will and testament is valid and takes effect
only at death, since it has no force or legal power as long as
the one who made it is alive. 18So even the [old]
first covenant (God's will) was not inaugurated and ratified and
put in force without the shedding of blood."
Many of the stories told in the New Testament indicate that
they were under the Old Law and in fact, many
who lived and died in the New Testament
including John the Baptist and Jesus lived and
died under Old Law (the Law of Moses).
They were under the
OLD Law (Law of Moses) up until Pentecost when
the New Law (Law of Christ) took effect.
Matthew 5:17-18 AMP
"Do not think that I have come to do away with or undo the Law
or the Prophets; I have come not to do away with or undo but to
complete and fulfill them. 18For truly I tell you,
until the sky and earth pass away and perish, not one smallest
letter nor one little hook [identifying certain Hebrew letters]
will pass from the Law until all things [it foreshadows] are
accomplished."
Like Jesus said in Matthew, He did not undo the Law of Moses,
but He DID complete and fulfill ALL the prophecies about Him
in the OLD Testament and He nailed the OLD Law to the cross.
Therefore, it is no longer binding on us and serves as an
example for us today. (1 Corinthians 10:6, 11)
In Acts 2:1-4, on Pentecost, God gave man the promise of the
Holy Spirit, the church, the bride of Christ as we see in
Rev. 21:2-3. And in Revelation 21:1-7, we see that the
old order of things have passed away there is a new heaven and
earth, the church, the bride of Christ, comes down out of Heaven
on Pentecost.
Revelation 21:1-7AMP
"1THEN I saw a new sky (heaven) and a new earth, for
the former sky and the former earth had passed away (vanished),
and there no longer existed any sea. 2And I saw the
holy city, the new Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
all arrayed like a bride beautified and adorned for her husband;
3Then I heard a mighty voice from the throne and I
perceived its distinct words, saying, See! The abode of God is
with men, and He will live (encamp, tent) among them; and they
shall be His people, and God shall personally be with them and
be their God. 4God will wipe away every tear from
their eyes; and death shall be no more, neither shall there be
anguish (sorrow and mourning) nor grief nor pain any more, for
the old conditions and the former order of things have passed
away. 5And He Who is seated on the throne said, See!
I make all things new. Also He said, Record this, for these
sayings are faithful (accurate, incorruptible, and trustworthy)
and true (genuine). 6And He [further] said to me,
It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the
End. To the thirsty I [Myself] will give water without price
from the fountain (springs) of the water of Life. 7
He who is victorious shall inherit all these things, and I will
be God to him and he shall be My son."
Paul, Priscilla, Aquila and Apollos are examples of the type of
people that God would have us to be. Now, let us have a look at
what happens when people do not follow God's way.
The Bible tells us that within 30 years of the start of the
church, both Paul and John dealt with apostasy.
2 Thessalonians 2:7 AMP
"7For the mystery of lawlessness (that hidden principle
of rebellion against constituted authority) is already at work
in the world."
Galatians 1:6-8 AMP
"6I am surprised and astonished that you are so quickly
turning renegade and deserting Him Who invited and called you
by the grace (unmerited favor) of Christ (the Messiah) [and
that you are transferring your allegiance] to a different [even
an opposition] gospel. 7Not that there is [or could
be] any other [genuine Gospel], but there are [obviously] some
who are troubling and disturbing and bewildering you [with a
different kind of teaching which they offer as a gospel] and
want to pervert and distort the Gospel of Christ (the Messiah)
[into something which it absolutely is not]. 8
But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a
gospel contrary to and different from that which we preached to
you, let him be accursed (anathema, devoted to destruction,
doomed to eternal punishment)!"
We have been in the last days since Pentecost and many antichrists
have arisen. 1 John 2:18 declares,
1 John 2:18 AMP
"18Boys (lads), it is the last time (hour, the end of
this age). And as you have heard that the antichrist [he who will
oppose Christ in the guise of Christ] is coming, even now many
antichrists have arisen, which confirms our belief that it is the
final (the end) time."
If Priscilla and Aquila had approached Apollos and he continued
to teach the baptism of John and not accepted the way of God,
then he would have been a false teacher. The first, false teachers,
were at one time bought with the blood of Jesus and turned from
God. Unfortunately, that is still true today.
2 Peter 2:1 AMP
"1BUT ALSO [in those days] there arose false prophets
among the people, just as there will be false teachers among
yourselves, who will subtly and stealthily introduce heretical
doctrines (destructive heresies), even denying and disowning the
Master Who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction."
Acts 20:28-30AMP
"28Take care and be on guard for yourselves and the
whole flock over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you bishops
and guardians, to shepherd (tend and feed and guide) the church
of the Lord or of God which He obtained for Himself [
buying it and saving it for Himself] with His own blood.
29I know that after I am gone, ferocious wolves will
get in among you, not sparing the flock; 30Even
from among your own selves men will come to the front who, by
saying perverse (distorted and corrupt) things, will endeavor to
draw away the disciples after them [to their own party]."
1 Timothy 6:20-21 AMP
"20O Timothy, guard and keep the deposit entrusted
[to you]! Turn away from the irreverent babble and godless chatter,
with the vain and empty and worldly phrases, and the subtleties
and the contradictions in what is falsely called knowledge and
spiritual illumination. 21[For] by making such
profession some have erred (missed the mark) as regards the
faith. Grace (divine favor and blessing) be with you all!
Amen (so be it)."
The Holy Spirit tells us that Hymenaeus was falsely teaching that
the resurrection had already taken place thus straying from the
faith.
2 Timothy 2:16-17 AMP
"16But avoid all empty (vain, useless, idle) talk, for
it will lead people into more and more ungodliness.17
And their teaching [will devour; it] will eat its way like cancer
or spread like gangrene. So it is with Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18Who have missed the mark and swerved from the truth
by arguing that the resurrection has already taken place. They
are undermining the faith of some."
1 Timothy 1:8-20 AMP
"18This charge and admonition I commit in trust to you,
Timothy, my son, in accordance with prophetic intimations which I
formerly received concerning you, so that inspired and aided by
them you may wage the good warfare,19Holding fast to
faith (that leaning of the entire human personality on God in
absolute trust and confidence) and having a good (clear) conscience.
By rejecting and thrusting from them [their conscience], some
individuals have made shipwreck of their faith. 20Among
them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have delivered to Satan
in order that they may be disciplined [by punishment and learn]
not to blaspheme."
God has warnings for us concerning standing firm in His Word.
2 John 1:8-9 AMP
"8Look to yourselves (take care) that you may
not lose (throw away or destroy) all that we and you have labored
for, but that you may [persevere until you] win and receive back
a perfect reward [in full]. 9Anyone who runs on ahead
[of God] and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ [who is not
content with what He taught] does not have God; but he who continues
to live in the doctrine (teaching) of Christ [does have God], he
has both the Father and the Son."
1 Corinthians 4
"6Now I have applied all this [about parties and
factions] to myself and Apollos for your sakes, brethren, so
that from what I have said of us [as illustrations], you may
learn [to think of men in accordance with Scripture and] not
to go beyond that which is written, that none of you may be
puffed up and inflated with pride and boast in favor of one
[minister and teacher] against another. 7For who
separates you from the others [as a faction leader]? [Who makes
you superior and sets you apart from another, giving you the
preeminence?] What have you that was not given to you? If then
you received it [from someone], why do you boast as if you had
not received [but had gained it by your own efforts]?
8[You behave as if] you are already filled and think you
have enough [you are full and content, feeling no need of
anything more]! Already you have become rich [in spiritual
gifts and graces]! [Without any counsel or instruction from us,
in your conceit], you have ascended your thrones and come into
your kingdom without including us! And would that it were true
and that you did reign, so that we might be sharing the kingdom
with you!"
1 Corinthians 10:12 AMP
"So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you
don't fall!"
We must keep ourselves in check by studying the Bible daily and
through prayer.
Acts 17:11 AMP
"11Now these [Jews] were better disposed and more noble
than those in Thessalonica, for they were entirely ready and
accepted and welcomed the message [concerning the attainment
through Christ of eternal salvation in the kingdom of God]
with inclination of mind and eagerness, searching and examining
the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so."
1 Thessalonians 5:17 AMP
"17Pray without ceasing."
IF we see a brother teaching error or living in error, we must
approach him, take him aside and teach him more perfectly the way
of God so that he will be saved from the second death, which is
spiritual death, total separation from God's people.
James 5:20 AMP
"19[My] brethren, if anyone among you strays from the
Truth and falls into error and another [person] brings him back
[to God], 20Let the [latter] one be sure that whoever
turns a sinner from his evil course will save [that one's] soul
from death and will cover a multitude of sins [procure the pardon
of the many sins committed by the convert]."
Any sincere believer that starts teaching things that are
not found in the Bible becomes lost, he no longer has God.
1 Timothy 4:16 AMP
"16Look well to yourself [to your own personality] and
to [your] teaching; persevere in these things [hold to them], for
by so doing you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
Romans 16:17-19 AMP
17I appeal to you, brethren, to be on your guard
concerning those who create dissensions and difficulties and
cause divisions, in opposition to the doctrine (the teaching)
which you have been taught. [I warn you to turn aside from
them, to] avoid them. 18For such persons do not
serve our Lord Christ but their own appetites and base desires,
and by ingratiating and flattering speech, they beguile the
hearts of the unsuspecting and simpleminded [people]. 19
For while your loyalty and obedience is known to all, so
that I rejoice over you, I would have you well versed and wise
as to what is good and innocent and guileless as to what is evil."
2 Peter 3:17 AMP
"17Let me warn you therefore, beloved, that knowing
these things beforehand, you should be on your guard, lest you be
carried away by the error of lawless and wicked [persons and] fall
from your own [present] firm condition [your own steadfastness of
mind]."
Yet, we still hear men say, "God will be pleased with your
life and your worship as long as you are honest and sincere in your
heart; so does it really matter? Absolutely, it does.
2 Timothy 3:13 AMP
"13But wicked men and imposters will go on from bad to
worse, deceiving and leading astray others and being deceived and
led astray themselves."
Matthew 15:13-14 AMP
"13He replied, "Every plant that my heavenly Father
has not planted will be pulled up by the roots. 14Leave
them; they are blind guides. If a blind man leads a blind man,
both will fall into a pit."
We know from this that doctrine does matter. We should never
teach anything that is not found in God's Word.
2 Timothy 3:16-1 AMP
"16Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration)
and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin,
for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for
training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God's
will in thought, purpose, and action), 17So that the man
of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly
equipped for every good work."
John 17:17 AMP
"17Sanctify them [purify, consecrate, separate them for
Yourself, make them holy] by the Truth; Your Word is Truth."
John 1:1-5, 9-14 reads:
John 1:1-5, 9-14 AMP
"1IN THE beginning [before all time] was the Word
(Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself.
2He was present originally with God. 3All
things were made and came into existence through Him; and without
Him was not even one thing made that has come into being. 4In
Him was Life, and the Life was the Light of men. 5And the
Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never
overpowered it [put it out or absorbed it or appropriated it, and is
unreceptive to it]. 9There it was--the true Light [was
then] coming into the world [the genuine, perfect, steadfast Light]
that illumines every person. 10He came into the world,
and though the world was made through Him, the world did not
recognize Him [did not know Him]. 14And the Word (Christ)
became flesh (human, incarnate) and tabernacled (fixed His tent
of flesh, lived awhile) among us; and we [actually] saw His glory
(His honor, His majesty), such glory as an only begotten son
receives from his father, full of grace (favor, loving-kindness)
and truth."
God tells us that His Word is Christ and we know that Christ is
Perfect. We should never add to it or take away from the
Bible, how could we? It is the Perfect Word of God.
Proverbs 30:5-6 NIV
"5 Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to
those who take refuge in him. 6 Do not
add to his words..."
Revelation 22:18-19 AMP
"18I [personally solemnly] warn everyone who listens to
the statements of the prophecy [the predictions and the
consolations and admonitions pertaining to them] in this book:
If anyone shall add anything to them, God will add and lay upon
him the plagues (the afflictions and the calamities) that are
recorded and described in this book.19And if anyone
cancels or takes away from the statements of the book of this
prophecy [these predictions relating to Christ's kingdom and its
speedy triumph, together with the consolations and admonitions or
warnings pertaining to them], God will cancel and take away from
him his share in the tree of life and in the city of holiness
(purity and hallowedness), which are described and promised in
this book."
Jesus tells us that ALL authority has been given to
Him.
Matthew 28:17-18 AMP
"17And when they saw Him, they fell down and worshiped
Him; but some doubted. 18Jesus approached
and, breaking the silence, said to them, All authority (all power
of rule) in heaven and on earth has been given to Me."
As then, still today, some doubt even among those in the church for
those with Him here in Matthew 28 were the 12 Apostles, minus Judas,
who betrayed Him. The desire to get rich is the worldly entanglement
of some false teachers. God says this of them.
2 Peter 2:20-22 AMP
"20For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the
world through [the full, personal] knowledge of our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ, they again become entangled in them and are overcome,
their last condition is worse [for them] than the first.21
For never to have obtained a [full, personal] knowledge of the way
of righteousness would have been better for them than, having
obtained [such knowledge], to turn back from the holy commandment
which was [verbally] delivered to them. 22There has
befallen them the thing spoken of in the true proverb, The dog
turns back to his own vomit, and, The sow is washed only to wallow
again in the mire."
When people who call themselves Christians live lives that lead
others to despise the Truth, they stand in the same condemnation
as the Pharisees who did not enter the Kingdom themselves nor allow
others to do so.
IF error and/or false doctrine is just as good as Truth, then
there would have been no reason for Priscilla and Aquila to
instruct Apollos on the Way of the Lord. Also, there would be no
reason for the Holy Spirit to include the example of them correcting
him in the Bible. Galatians 6:7 says,
Galatians 6:7 AMP
"7Do not be deceived. God cannot be mocked. A man reaps
what he sows."
John 8:32 AMP
"32And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set
you free."
And, Titus 1:2 reads:
Titus 1 AMP
"[Resting] in the hope of eternal life, [life] which the ever truthful God Who cannot
deceive promised before the world or the ages of time began."
Jesus tells us who the deceiver is:
John 8 AMP
"42Jesus said to them, If God were your Father, you would love Me and
respect Me and welcome Me gladly, for I proceeded (came forth) from God [out of His
very presence]. I did not even come on My own authority or of My own accord (as
self-appointed); but He sent Me. 43Why do you misunderstand what I say?
It is because you are unable to hear what I am saying. [You cannot bear to listen to
My message; your ears are shut to My teaching.] 44You are of your
father, the devil, and it is your will to practice the lusts and gratify the desires
[which are characteristic] of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning and
does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a
falsehood, he speaks what is natural to him, for he is a liar [himself] and the
father of lies and of all that is false. 45But because I speak the truth,
you do not believe Me [do not trust Me, do not rely on Me, or adhere to Me]."
Therefore, we are warned in Rom. 16:17-20:
Romans 16:17-20 AMP
"17I appeal to you, brethren, to be on your guard concerning those who
create dissensions and difficulties and cause divisions, in opposition to the
doctrine (the teaching) which you have been taught. [I warn you to turn aside from
them, to] avoid them. 18For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ
but their own appetites and base desires, and by ingratiating and flattering speech,
they beguile the hearts of the unsuspecting and simpleminded [people]. 19
For while your loyalty and obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, I
would have you well versed and wise as to what is good and innocent and guileless as
to what is evil. 20And the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your
feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) be with you."
Who are those who cause division and offenses in the church, we must ask ourselves?
Is it those who teach false doctrine among us? Or is it those of us who recognize
those false doctrines and teach against them? Unity is a divine signpost to the world.
Jesus attained unity through His death on the cross that we might be one body in Him.
The division between the Jew and the Gentile ended at the cross.
Ephesians 2:14 AMP
"14For He is [Himself] our peace (our bond of unity and harmony). He has made us both
[Jew and Gentile] one [body], and has broken down (destroyed, abolished) the hostile
dividing wall between us, 15By abolishing in His [own crucified] flesh
the enmity [caused by] the Law with its decrees and ordinances [which He annulled];
that He from the two might create in Himself one new man [one new quality of humanity
out of the two], so making peace. 16And [He designed] to reconcile to God
both [Jew and Gentile, united] in a single body by means of His cross, thereby killing
the mutual enmity and bringing the feud to an end. And, here Paul is talking about the
OLD Law or Law of Moses. When a person is Scripturally baptized, he begins a new
Christian life and is united with all believers in the ONE body of Christ."
Philippians 2:1-3 AMP
Imitating Christ's Humility "1If you have any encouragement
from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with
the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2then make my joy complete
by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and
purpose. 3Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in
humility consider others better than yourselves."
1 Corinthians 1:10 AMP
"I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you
agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that
you may be perfectly united in mind and thought."
Acts 4:32 AMP
"32All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed
that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had."
John 17:22-23 AMP
"22I have given to them the glory and honor which You have given Me, that
they may be one [even] as We are one: 23I in them and You in Me, in order
that they may become one and perfectly united, that the
world may know and [definitely] recognize that You sent Me and that You have loved
them [even] as You have loved Me. There are those, who like Apollos that unknowingly
teach something that is wrong. When shown the Perfect way of the Lord, they change,
accept God's way and begin to teach correctly. Others, however, will not change when
shown the Truth in God's Holy Inspired Perfect Written Word."
In conclusion, let us, pattern our lives after Priscilla and her husband Aquila,
that we may be followers of the Apostle's doctrine, which is the doctrine of Christ.
May we, like Priscilla and Aquila, be concerned enough to take those we see in error
aside and help them understand correctly the way of God. And, let us study our
Bibles daily and pray for wisdom and understanding so that we will not be lead astray
by false doctrine or become entangled in worldly thinking ourselves. May we
live our lives worthy of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, our One and only Spiritual
Teacher, who willingly gave His life so we could have the hope of eternal life.
Paul says in 1 Corinthians 11:1-2,
1 Corinthians 11:1-2 AMP
"1PATTERN YOURSELVES after me [follow my example], as I imitate and
follow Christ (the Messiah). 2I appreciate and commend you because you
always remember me in everything and keep firm possession of the traditions (the
substance of my instructions), just as I have [verbally] passed them on to you."
God first entrusted His Oracles or Words to the Jews who crucified His Son, Jesus
when He came in the flesh. They succeeded in preserving God's Word.
Romans 3:2 AMP
"2Under the Old Law, the Jews were entrusted with the oracles (the brief
communications, the intentions, the utterances) of God."
Today, we in the Lord's church, are the spiritual Jews. God has given us His
oracles through His Holy Inspired Perfect Written Word.
We also, like the physical Jews, crucified Jesus because He died to save us from
our sin. Let us preserve God's Word by teaching others, taking them aside when we
see error as Priscilla and Aquila did and teach them perfectly the way of the Lord.
1 Peter 4:11 AMP
"11Whoever speaks, [let him do it as one who utters] oracles of God;
whoever renders service, [let him do it] as with the strength which God furnishes
abundantly, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ (the
Messiah). To Him be the glory and dominion forever and ever (through endless ages).
Amen (so be it)."
